Equipment

  • small pan
  • Mug
  • spoon
  • tall glasses
  • large straws

Ingredients

  • 1 bag tea black, green, oolong, etc
  • ½ cup quick-cooking tapioca pearls
  • 2 tablespoon sugar brown, white, granulated
  • 3 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup milk I used unsweetened oat milk
  • 1 handful ice cubes for serving

Instructions

  • Prepare tea by adding 1 tea bag (or 2 teaspoons of loose leaf tea) to 1 cup of boiled water.
  • Steep for 5 minutes & then let cool down completely.
  • Add tapioca pearls to a small saucepan filled with boiling hot water. Simmer for 3-5 minutes. Important - Read the instructions on your tapioca pearls packaging. Cooking times vary per brand!
  • Reserve 2 tablespoons of water and drain the rest.
  • Add sugar and the reserved water to the cooked boba pearls. Stir well and set aside.
  • Fill two tall glasses with ice. Add boba pearls. Then add vanilla extract on top.
  • Add cold tea and cold milk on top. Stir well & enjoy!

Notes

If you don't mix it well, the vanilla will stay on the bottom. To serve hot, skip the ice cubes and add piping hot tea and milk. Black tea can have a slightly bitter flavor if you let it steep for too long. Add more sugar to neutralize this. Adjust the consistency of boba pearls to your taste. Cook for a few minutes longer if you prefer a softer texture. Want to maximize the vanilla flavor? Add two kinds of vanilla - for example vanilla extract & vanilla paste.
